Inaugurating V1-3 wind power project in Ben Tre province   – On November 28, 2021, in An Thuy commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province, Ben Tre Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company held a ceremony for inaugurating the V1-3 Ben Tre Wind Power Project (WPP). V1-3 WPP is the first wind power project put into commercial operation in Ben Tre province. Ribbon-cutting ceremony for inaugurating the V1-3 Ben Tre Wind Power Project (WPP V1-3 Ben Tre WPP with a capacity of 29.4 MW and an annual generation of 104GWh invested by Ben Tre Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company with a total investment capital of over 1,500 billion VND, started for construction on April 5, 2020. The V1-3 Ben Tre WPP includes 7 wind turbines, produced by Danish Vestas with a capacity of 4.2 MW/turbine, propellers with a length of 75 m placed on the towers with a height of 104 m, cylinder diameter of 4.4 m. PVN starts strategy for developing hydrogen and offshore wind power projects   – On November 18 in Hanoi, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on building a strategic partnership in 2021 – 2024 years to promote clean and sustainable energy development in Vietnam, as well as support PVN to achieve the green energy transition goal. Specifically, the two sides will cooperate in strategy, a roadmap for green energy transition, carbon capture, use and storage; developing hydrogen industry and offshore wind power projects. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Andrew Jeffries – ADB Country Director for Vietnam shared that establishing a partnership to coordinate and cooperate in the activities is interesting for both sides. As a multilateral financial institution and a catalyst organization for global and regional climate funds, ADB commits to support PVN through policy, technical consultations, investment funds, as well as to mobilize co-finance from other financial sources. BCG Energy and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy cooperate for WPD in Vietnam  – Within the framework of the 26th Conference of the participates in the Framework Convention of United Nations on Climate Change (COP26) taking place in the United Kingdom, under the witness of Vietnamese Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (RE) and BCG Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Siemens Gamesa RE providing BCG Energy with equipment and technical solutions for wind power development in Vietnam. Siemens Gamesa RE is a member of Siemens Group (Germany) – the world’s largest supplier of wind power and renewable energy technology and equipment. According to the signed agreement, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will be the supplier of equipment and technical solutions for BCG Energy to implement the roadmap for wind power development with a capacity more than 500 MW and an investment of about 400 million USD. in Vietnam, several wind measurement studies are conducted. Vietnam is considered to have the best wind resources in Southeast Asia, especially in the nearshore/offshore and onshore coastal regions in the south of Vietnam. In these areas yearly average windspeeds of 9 to 10 meters per second are measured. Generally, windspeeds are declining further inland. Renewable energy targets and wind energy Vietnam is a country with a rapidly growing economy together with an increasing energy and electricity demand. To sustain the growing electricity demand, new power plants are being built, especially coal-fired power plants. Besides fossil fuels, hydro power is also an important part of the electricity supply in Vietnam, accounting for 37,3 percent of the total installed capacity. EVN is the single buyer of electricity and holds a monopoly on transmission and distribution. Renewable energy sources are still a very small share in the total electricity production, but ambitious targets have been set by the government.
